SAR imagery provides valuable information about cloud covered tropical forest areas where optical sensors fail to observe. Among many features, roads and trails are a very useful indicator to monitor human activities in these areas. In this experiment, feasibility of detecting roads and trails from a single-look RADARSAT image has been studied. Various image information such as intensity, shape, size, fractal measures, radar direction and spatial association were integrated in the analysis.

The future supply of rice is being threatened by global warming, affecting weather patterns, soil-related stresses and deficiencies, pests, etc. The ability to monitor rice production, therefore, is becoming increasingly important. A demonstration of SAR's advantage, and the integration of Radar and GIS.
